Exchange Theory

This week in class we focused a lot on different theories about how people relate to each other. I am a psychology major so this really interested me. The theory that peaked my interest the most was the exchange theory. The exchange theory is all about how people keep track of how much they give and take in a relationship. If the person feels like they are giving more than they are taking they are most likely going to be unhappy in the relationship.

While I was thinking about this theory I was thinking that this wasn't really relative to me. I felt like I was more giving and didn't expect anything in return. Over the weekend I noticed that this wasn't the case. I think that as people we do this without even noticing. We subconsciously keep a record of what we do for others and what they do for us.
